Buyer questionAnswered from the China side

The risks of buying from Alibaba, which checks help with each?

Before paying, separate company identity, payment, product and delivery risk. Use company records for identity, independent confirmation for payment details, and specifications and inspection for the goods. Each check has limits.

1. Company identity: confirm who accepts your order

The storefront is an account; your counterparty is a registered company. The gap between the two is where these failures live:

On 28 August 2026, none of the 33 Alibaba.com profiles we read showed the registered Chinese name, legal representative or company code. Ask for the licence or contract details when the profile does not identify the seller. This observation is limited to the rendered sample. Read the profile-field study.

One number worth knowing before you rely on an English name: when I searched all 106 Chinese manufacturers on a US regulator’s list by their English names, 42.5% returned nothing at all. The full search-outcome study shows what came back and why.

One returned candidate is not proof that it matches your seller. Compare the full legal name and company code with your documents.

Use the registration guide for identity checks, then the due diligence checklist for the wider sequence. A third-party review needs its own defined scope.

2. Payment: confirm who receives the money

A genuine supplier can still be impersonated through false payment instructions. See the changed-account scenario.

  • Compare payee and contract seller. If they differ, request the relationship and payment authority in writing and confirm them independently. Import/export wording in a company scope does not prove why another entity receives payment.
  • Any mid-deal change of account is a stop event, re-confirmed through a channel you opened. The payment check and the bank-account check carry the detail.

3. Product: agree the standard and inspect the goods

Company records do not show what is in your shipment. Agree on the following before production:

What our record searches returned

These 45 companies came from a selected NHTSA manufacturer sample with one returned Chinese match per English-name search. Commercial platform queries ran on 21–22 August 2026. The sample does not represent all Alibaba suppliers.

Selected record returns for 45 companies. Queried 21–22 August 2026.

No current operating-anomaly or serious-violation records were returned for the 45 companies. Separate historical queries returned at least one record for five companies. Those queries covered historical operating anomalies, judicial assistance and administrative penalties.

An empty query means this source returned no record for that query. It does not establish a clean history or that a company is safe to pay. A returned record also needs its date, subject and current status checked.

The same sample is used elsewhere on this site. See the NHTSA study for selection and matching limits. Historical queries were run on 21 August; the current-record batch spans 21–22 August.

4. What no check removes

Production delays, freight changes, warranty costs and disputes can arise with a genuine supplier. Set responsibilities in the order and shipping terms, with time and budget for problems. A contract defines obligations; it does not ensure performance.

Records reach us through licensed commercial data platforms. Their coverage and update timing can differ from official records. The free browser scope reader interprets supplied text; human record checks have a separate scope. Use the Alibaba safety overview to put these checks in order.

How we checked

Platform statistics come from reading the subject fields on a stated number of live storefront pages on the date shown. Fill rates come from running our report process on real companies and counting how many of the twelve dimensions returned data on the date stated. The most recent query date on this page is 28 August 2026. Where a table carries its own date, that date governs.

The official pages we read are listed on this page with the date each was accessed, so every figure can be re-checked at source.

Need company records? The “who is this company” selection starts from $26.55 for five checks. It does not include every risk record above; review the menu for court and historical checks. Delivery follows your order confirmation.
