Separate the platform from your specific order

DHgate's help centre describes payment, disputes and refunds. This establishes a platform process; it does not prove a seller's reliability, product quality or a refund outcome.

Review the seller's account history and recent feedback for the product. Ask about unclear specifications or delivery terms before paying. For a Chinese company you plan to buy from repeatedly, request its registered name and company code as a separate identity check.

A company record cannot settle whether the listing is accurate or the goods will meet your needs. The order, payment, inspection and identity checks also help you frame those questions on other marketplaces.

Check the product, payment and seller

Record what you are buying. Save the listing, model, materials, quantity, shipping terms and seller messages. Ask for evidence of product claims you rely on.
Use the platform payment route. Check the order details before checkout. A separate payment request needs clarification through support.
Identify a mainland Chinese company when relevant. Ask for its registered Chinese name and 18-character code. The free code checker tests format only. A missing licence response is an unresolved gap, not proof of fraud.
Check records and document names. Follow the registration guide, then compare seller, invoice and payee names. A platform payment processor may have a different name; confirm its role.

These company checks are separate from product checks. They do not verify a bank account, inspect goods or guarantee delivery.

In our commercial-layer search of 106 NHTSA-listed Chinese manufacturers on 18 August 2026, 45 names returned no candidate and 54 returned one. This was not a sample of DHgate sellers. No candidate does not prove a business is false, and one candidate does not confirm the match. Read the search method and raw results.

DHgate vs Alibaba: compare the actual offer

Ask both sellers to quote the same product, quantity and delivery destination. Compare the total cost, sample options, documents and return terms. A smaller lot does not tell you whether the seller is a factory or reseller.

If an order goes wrong

DHgate's help page directs buyers to the order's Return & Refund process for missing, damaged or misdescribed goods, with evidence. It also describes escalation when the seller does not resolve a dispute. Check the current options and deadlines in your account.

If you suspect fraud after paying, preserve the evidence and contact your bank promptly. A company-record report cannot recover the payment.
