Buyer questionAnswered from the China side
Alibaba Trade Assurance: check your coverage before you pay.
Trade Assurance offers payment and order protection on eligible Alibaba.com orders. Before paying, check the agreed product details, payment instructions and refund deadline. Keep the order and your messages together in case you need to claim.
1. What Alibaba says it covers
Read on the official programme page, the coverage is grouped into four areas. Stated plainly:
- Payment handling. Payments made through Alibaba.com are processed on-platform rather than sent directly to a supplier’s account. Follow the payment instructions attached to your Trade Assurance order.
- A money-back policy for orders that are not shipped, go missing, or arrive with defects, incorrect items or damage.
- Shipping and logistics, with compensation if delivery misses the scheduled date.
- After-sales protections: installation, maintenance, repair, replacement parts, on eligible products. That qualifier is doing real work. It is not a blanket warranty.
Two conditions worth noticing in the same breath: the Easy Return service applies only in listed eligible countries, and the after-sales protections apply only to eligible products. Neither is hidden, and both are easy to read past.
2. The standard a claim is judged against
Make the agreed product details easy to check. Record the material grade, quantities, tolerances, shipping date and inspection method in the order.
Keep the approved sample reference, order changes and messages in Alibaba.com. Its buyer guide recommends using the Message Center to support Trade Assurance protection. Chat records can matter; the written order should make the final agreement clear.
Use the purchase order checklist and quality control plan to agree what will be checked. Clear records support a claim; they do not guarantee its outcome.
3. The clock, and the size of the remedy
Two published numbers change how you should plan an order, and both are easy to miss until it is too late to use them.
- Plan around the refund deadline. The money-back policy states 30 days from delivery, extended to 60 days for Enterprise and Enterprise Pro buyers. Check the deadline in your order and inspect goods promptly.
- Check whether the delivery guarantee applies. The On-time Delivery terms describe compensation of 10% of order value, excluding service fees, capped at US$100. A successful claim receives coupons for future orders. This is separate from a refund and is subject to the linked logistics agreement.
Track the response and escalation deadlines shown in your dispute page. Keep the claim open while it is unresolved and use the platform help route if you cannot find the next step.
Refund and delivery-compensation pages checked on 6 September 2026. Their windows have different starting points: the delivery-guarantee page says to apply within 30 calendar days of the specified dispatch or delivery date. Check the benefit attached to your order.
4. Four records to check before you pay
These checks help you keep evidence for your order and spot questions that need an answer before payment.
- Use the order payment instructions. Bank transfer (T/T) is an accepted payment method. Follow the instructions inside your Alibaba.com order; do not substitute bank details sent in a separate message. A direct transfer to the supplier outside that route is different. Check changed bank details before sending money.
- Nothing measurable was agreed. “Same as the sample” is not a specification unless a sealed, documented sample is referenced in the order. Turning an approved sample into a written reference helps both sides refer to the same item.
- Plan inspection and keep its findings. Agree when inspection will happen and how defects will be handled before paying the balance. Inspect delivered goods promptly so you can act within the deadline shown for your order.
- The counterparty was never established. Protection concerns your order with a supplier on the platform. It does not tell you which registered company is behind the storefront. It also does not confirm whether that company is still active, or whether the entity on the invoice matches the one receiving your money. Check the 18-character code, then read the live registration record.
5. How far you have to click before the limits appear
Keep the terms that apply to your order, along with its agreed details. A previous access check shows why a general programme link may not be enough to retrieve the rule text later.
| Page | From outside China | From a Shanghai node |
|---|---|---|

The table records a single check on 22 August 2026. It does not describe what every buyer sees now. The money-back page retrieved on 6 September includes refund windows and Easy Return conditions.

Before ordering, open the terms from your order page and save a dated copy. If a link does not open, ask platform support for the applicable terms before paying.
So should you rely on it?
For an eligible order, Trade Assurance gives you a platform route to request a refund and seek help with a dispute. Check its terms alongside your supplier agreement before deciding to pay.
Can I get my deposit refunded on Alibaba? Check whether the payment belongs to a Trade Assurance order and which refund terms apply. The published policy covers situations such as goods not shipped, missing goods and product issues. Apply through the order within its deadline and keep evidence. For money sent directly to a supplier outside the platform payment route, see steps to take after a suspected scam.
Order protection does not replace product inspection or identifying the company you are buying from. A company record check can help with identity and recorded status; it cannot decide a refund claim or guarantee delivery.

How we checked
Platform terms were read page by page on the dates stated, recording what each page showed and what it did not. The most recent query date on this page is 22 August 2026. Where a table carries its own date, that date governs.
The official pages we read are listed on this page with the date each was accessed, so every figure can be re-checked at source.
Being pushed to pay a deposit right now? The checks that matter before money moves take about ten minutes and cost nothing.
If you want these records pulled for your own supplier: the “Just check who they are” selection of the report menu covers them, packs from $26.55. Delivery follows the window on your order confirmation. Buying from a Chinese seller of record is the other route entirely. Its own choice, its own trade-offs.
